Herzogenaurach is a German town, located in Bavaria, that is the hometown of Adidas. Herzogenaurach has been the location of Adidas' headquarters for the entirety of it's existence. Herzogenaurach is pronounced as 'Herziaura' in the East Franconian (Ostfränkisch) German dialect. Herzogenaurach is located in the Erlangen-Höchstadt district of Bavaria. Erlangen-Höchstadt is situated in the center of Bavaria, and Bavaria is the largest German state with Munich as it's capital. Herzogenaurach is a small rural town that has many attractive medieval buildings; written documents dating back to the 11th Century mention Herzogenaurach. The two most iconic building in the town are towers dating back to the middle ages: named the Fehnturm tower and the Türmersturm tower.

The sports brands were founded by brothers Adolf Dassler (Adidas) and Rudolf Dassler (Puma). The Dassler brothers had previously operated the Dassler Brothers shoe factory together, before 'falling out' and going their separate ways.

The headquarters of Puma and Adidas are located on the opposite sides of the river Aurach, and company loyalty is sharply divided within the town. Herzogenaurach is a small town with a population of 20,000; therefore, it is unusual for two multinational companies to be located in such a rural locale. The closest city to Herzogenaurach is Nuremberg: which is in the region of 10-15 miles in distance from Herzogenaurach. Herzogenaurach is home to two football teams: ASV Herzogenaurach and FC Herzogenaurach; Adidas sponsor ASV Herzogenaurach.

Adidas were founded in 1949, and were family run until 1991. Adidas became a publicly listed company in the 1990's and acquired a range of sporting goods brands; such as Taylormade Golf. This led to the creation of the Adidas Group (AG) in 2006; the Adidas Group (AG) manages and overseas the operation of all the sporting goods companies that it owns. Therefore, the Adidas Group (AG), and the Adidas brand company, are currently two distinct entities with different Herzogenaurach addresses; shown below:
